Businesses that specialise in manufacturing face a lot of challenges when it comes to energy management. When your company runs a factory, you’ll find that it can be very costly to run. Buildings are huge, and when you fill them with machinery, you’re tacking on the money. Industry experts are always in agreement that energy efficiency is a prime concern.

Energy efficiency is a huge concern among manufacturing companies. Alongside this, you need to be able to keep your costs down. Manufacturing centralises energy but that doesn’t mean companies don’t want to improve their energy efficiency. Boilers, furnaces, heating, cooling, lighting and machinery are all part of manufacturing, and the companies you choose to supply your business should be chosen carefully. So, how can you improve your manufacturing businesses energy efficiency?

1. Improve Processes

One of the biggest causes of energy consumption overload in manufacturing is poor processes. Looking over how your company processes work and figure out where you can make improvements. If processes are being overly done, you can make changes to reduce the consumption of energy. This then reduces costs!

2. Boiler Maintenance

If your company is monitoring the insulation and heat recovery of your boilers, you can improve its efficiency. You can save up to 30% of energy just by keeping an eye on the distribution and generation of steam.

3. Fuel

The fuel that your manufacturing company uses needs to be managed properly. Choosing red diesel means you are spending less money as the prices are lower than the usual white diesel. This is because of a lower fuel tax rate. The fuel you use is important for your furnaces in a manufacturing plant and by focusing on this, you can improve your expenditure.

4. Upgrade Your Motors

Most manufacturing areas don’t know that they have inefficient motors in their plant. If your motors are running at a higher efficiency, you can make savings and improve workplace efficiency up to 5%. Switching motors off when they’re not in use can help conserve energy, as can reducing the pumping load. Motors can use up to 80% of energy and it makes sense to focus on those systems.

5. Furnaces Matter

Your energy consumption rockets up when you include a furnace in the figures. Improving the schedule and carrying out regular maintenance on your furnace can help to improve your energy efficiency.

If your company operates with efficiency, you are not just benefitting your clients. There are environmental, societal and economic benefits of being energy efficient. Energy is a commodity for businesses and as with most other business commodities, it follows the supply and demand laws. What it doesn’t follow is the same cost demand model. Being energy efficient in business is important for the bottom line of the company and comparing energy prices is important when you embark on your company. Manufacturing accounts for a third of energy consumption around the world and this makes it all the more important.
