There is so much focus on being eco-friendly these days, that many of us are starting to implement permanent changes in our lives to ensure that we can do our bit to help out the environment. Changing habits in the home, making home improvements to change the way we use energy, but is there more that we could do? Some of us have a business premises that we either work at or even have created ourselves, have we done enough to ensure that our business models and companies are doing their bit as well? I wanted to share with you some of the ways you can make your business more environmentally friendly.

1. Think About The Building Itself

First of all, you could put some focus into the building and look at improving the efficiency within the building itself. It may sound complicated, but actually just making a few changes and investments could make your business environment much more eco-friendly. One of the first things to do would be to look at the bulbs you are using in your lighting. Lights are switched on almost all day, especially during the winter months when the light isn’t as strong. So using energy efficient bulbs like LED’s could end up saving you quite a bit on your energy bill, while being efficient for your eco footprint. You might also want to look at the way you manage your waste in the office. Recycling any older materials where possible such as old computers and technology and paper. But you could also manage your commercial waste collection much more effectively. Further investments could be with the building itself. So investing in new windows to double glazing and insulation within the walls and ceiling could help to keep the heat in during the colder months, enabling you to keep those heating costs at an all time low.

2. What Habits Can Be Changed During The Working Day?

The next thing to think about would be how you and your employees are in regards to your own habits. This could mean being more aware of what energy you use throughout the day, or even when you aren’t in the office at night. One of the biggest issues an office faces is leaving technology such as computer screens and desktops on all night. Standby mode looks like the tec is switched off, but there is still an energy source powering through which can be extremely wasteful. Try and remember to switch things off fully, even at the source of power itself if needed. Lights can be a similar issue, when things are left on overnight by mistake in a room that you haven’t noticed, for example. Again being proactive with that can help you to save on your energy bills and make your business much more eco-friendly.

3. Could Your Products Or Services Be More Eco-Friendly?

Finally, is there anything you could do to make your business products and services more eco-friendly? Perhaps using less packaging or even biodegradable packaging for your products. Perhaps using less fuel or energy when providing a service maybe? There may be a few tweaks you can make to your business model to try and ensure that you save energy as and where you can.

I hope these tips help you make your business more energy efficient.
