Tips For Choosing A Smartphone

So you are looking for a smartphone and it has been hard for you to decide which one to buy. Smartphones have become the necessity of present era and there are currently plenty of options available for you to choose from. However, there are many things you need to bear in mind while buying a smartphone. Here is a quick guide that will help you when deciding on a smartphone.

Determine Your Needs

Be certain of which types of features you want in your phone. Do you want a phone with a physical keyboard, small screen or a large screen? You may also want a good camera, Exchange support and BB messenger in your device. Figure out what you want in your device before heading into the market.

Select An Operating System

Today, there are 4 major choices of smartphone operating systems, which are Windows Phone, iOS, BlackBerry and Android Phone. Below are short descriptions of each along with some of the benefits of using them.

Windows Phone

Microsoft built Windows Phone after the limited success of Windows Mobile. This OS employs a new type of interface which uses Live Tiles, which are half widget and half app icon, instead of relying on a notification tray or a grid of shortcuts. All the moving graphics and information are displayed on your homepage.

iOS

The only phone that uses iOS is iPhone. It may be the best option if you are planning to enjoy services like iTunes. It features simple and clean design with the best catalogue of apps and games.

BlackBerry

BlackBerry is the right choice for those who love small screens, physical keyboards or are hooked on BBM. This operating system is made by Research In Motion (RIM), a Canadian company. It brought revolution in the field of smartphone years ago, however it is struggling to keep up recently.

Android

You can find this OS in majority of the smartphones and is developed by Google. It looks similar to iOS in many aspects, but it includes customisable widgets and homescreens.

Select A Wireless Carrier (US)

The carrier will be the determining factor for your selection of phone unless you are about to buy a Galaxy or iPhone. In the US, everything is ruled by wireless carriers. The major networks are Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T. Some smaller carriers that hold small market shares are Cricket, US Cellular, Ting, Metro PCS, and Boost. Brief descriptions of each network are given below along with some of the benefits of using them.

Verizon

Verizon is the only carrier with the nationwide network of 4G LTE. It delivers faster speeds and is the most expensive carrier in US. Verizon covers the BlackBerry, Android and iPhone devices.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile is the most flexible carrier with regards to prices and plans. However, it doesn’t deliver high speed. This carrier covers the BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Android devices.

Sprint

Sprint is struggling to compete with Verizon and AT&T. Although 4G was first delivered by this carrier, it hasn’t been great when it comes to deployment of the high-speed 4G network. Sprint only covers Android and iPhone devices.

AT&T

This carrier has dominated the market share. AT&T has the wide range of devices available.
