Tis almost the season to be jolly, and most of you have probably already boxed off most of the shopping and now are counting down the 1st of December when you can officially get the tree up in your home. However, there are always extra things to think about and people to accommodate for at this time of year. So here are some tips to help you with your final Christmas preparations.

1. Saving Up

The first step to making sure Christmas runs smoothly is to save up in advance and make sure that all of the things you’ll be paying out for won’t put you in debt. If you are smart about it you can put aside a little bit of money into a Christmas fund at the end of each month so that if you see things throughout the year as gifts for family and friends you can use this money to buy them. If you just need that little extra boost to your finances, you can always play games on sites like to try and win some cash or even enter competitions to win gifts. You might not win anything, but there’s no harm in trying.

2. The Decorations

Now is the prime time to buy your decorations because all of the stores will start to reduce prices soon due to it being closer to the big day. If you are unsure on your colour scheme for this year, take some inspiration from the decorations they have on display in store or even look on a site like Pinterest to give you an idea of colour. If you have a small house you will want to use lighter colours to make the room feel a little bigger.

When it comes to buying the tree, you have two options: artificial or real. Depending on the size of your home and the money you have, a real tree is better but an artificial one can look just as impressive if you buy a good quality one. The great thing with artificial trees is you can reuse them next year.

3. The Food

Food is always the biggest task when preparing Christmas. If you are hosting dinner this year, you will need to take some time thinking about everyone’s dietary requirements, likes and dislikes, and how much of everything you will need to fill them up but also not leave too much waste. The key is to find your meat fairly early and freeze it until the day before you plan to cook it. This way you know you have got a good quality piece of meat and you don’t need to worry about choosing from the slim pickings in the stores.

When it comes to treats and side dishes you can really do whatever takes your fancy. If you love to bake then this could be a great opportunity to play around and make some fun cakes and mince pies. Lay them all out on the table and leave everyone to it for a stress free dessert on christmas day. You can find some really great ideas and recipes for christmas here:
