Listen To The Most Relaxing Song Ever Made

Marconi Union

A Manchester band by the name of Marconi Union, have, in collaboration with the British Academy Of Sound Therapy, created a song that has been called the most relaxing song ever made. The track entitled ‘Weightless’, is just over eight minutes in length and features guitar, piano and manipulated field recordings. It is punctuated throughout by low tones that supposedly induce a trance-like state.

Scientists at a commercial ‘neuromarketing’ company Mindlab, claim it induced a 65% reduction in overall anxiety and brought test subjects’ resting pulse rates to 35% of their usual resting rates. Radox Spa, who commissioned the study, found that the song was even more relaxing than a massage, a walk, or a cup of tea, and advised against listening to the song whilst driving.

Marconi Union have distanced themselves from claims about the so called therapeutic properties of the track, stating that they had no part in the testing and that these claims came from scientists and the media. The band were featured in Time Magazine’s list of Inventors of 2011 for writing this song.

The song is part of the album Ambient Transmissions Vol.2, which features six tracks of minimal warm drones and drifting sounds with occasional sparse rhythms. Weightless or ‘Part 1’, has already attracted close to 3 million worldwide views on YouTube and over 650,000 followers on Soundcloud. The song was made available for free and was downloaded 60,000 times in the first thirty six hours.
