It’s hard to imagine that only a decade ago, the iPhone was a new thing. You may have owned a flip phone at the time (remember those?) and thought your grainy photos were awesome, or maybe you were lucky enough to send and receive emails on a BlackBerry. But if the thought of those technological dark ages causes you a slight twinge of panic, never fear: the year of 2017 promises to deliver on all of your smartphone dreams. Here are the sleekest, fastest and most exciting smartphones to look forward to this year.
1. BlackBerry Mercury
The upcoming BlackBerry Mercury may be the best BlackBerry yet, according to news from AndroidCentral. For those who enjoy the solid metal feel of the classic BlackBerry and a full hardware keyboard, the modernised Mercury promises to deliver without any awkward sliding. The Mercury will have an easy-to-grip, soft touch back and the familiar security features of BlackBerry. Maybe best of all, it will be the first BlackBerry to run Android 7.0 Nougat.
2. HTC 11
The HTC 11, a high-end successor to the HTC 10, will likely be a striking visual upgrade. TechRadar reports rumours that the 11 model will have a very sleek design with an edge-to-edge front screen and back edges that slope off sharply. It’s possible that this year’s model will even sport a huge upgrade from 4GB to 8BG in RAM and a long-lasting 3,700mAh battery.
3. Apple iPhone 8
Apple’s 10th-anniversary edition of the iPhone is sure to be spectacular. The iPhone 8 will have a forged stainless steel frame with glass panels on both the front and back with, rumour has it, possibly a more flexible, curved OLED display. Allegedly, the new iPhone may also boast IP68 certified waterproofing. Most importantly, however, the new phone will likely add wireless charging due to its glass back, making this a must-buy iPhone in 2017.
4. Samsung Galaxy S8
The new Samsung Galaxy S8 may still be able to improve on the near-perfect S7 with a 4K screen, Snapdragon 830 processor, 6GB of RAM and an 18-24MP dual-lens camera. The new model is also rumoured to have a curved screen and a sharp 806 pixels per inch display. Like the iPhone 8, the Galaxy S8 will most likely come with the much coveted IP68 certified waterproofing. And with the removal of the physical home button, the S8 screen may even include a fingerprint scanner.
5. LG G6
Like other smartphones in 2017, the LG G6 will most likely feature a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6 GB of RAM and possibly a 4K display. Plus, the G6 might upgrade its storage space from the G5’s 32 GB to a whopping 64 GB. The waterproof body, wireless charging capability and front-facing camera that may be capable of iris-scanning put the G6 in direct competition with leading contenders for the best-of-2017 smartphone race.
The final specs and details for these impressive new phones will most likely be announced around the time of the Mobile World Congress in late February or early March. And once these new dream devices hit the shelves, indulge your itch for the latest and greatest at T-Mobile. If you switch to T-Mobile, they offer to pay off your early termination fees and a trade-in credit to help you expedite your smartphone upgrade.
